Brave men on Silk Road

I saw men treading the rugged road,
Fearless and with heavy loads.
I invited these brave men into my shelter,
They took off their hats and said that
This should all be mine.
What I received was some shining silk,
And in return, I gave them a tumbler of wine.
They spoke in a language I had never heard;
Their speech was solid and not a blur.
Settled down, I politely asked,
‘How dangerous, if I may inquire, is the road?’
‘Dark clouds.
And green snakes crawling
Near the crowd.
Cold-blooded rain slashing on the face,
And the deep mug is always eating the lace.
‘Sands and dusts, they tried to break us.
Trembling, we thought the sky had given us up.
‘But inside the cave, our sadness evaporates,
As daylight glistens and the morning dews listen.’
And on the road, they go again;
To find themselves and feel the world again.
I would very much like to go with them,
But their destinations are not mine.
