There was a boy called Fake living in a place called NowHere with his parents. No one knows why Fake has got this name; the only thing is that Fake was always jolly and liked to learn.
His school life was very successful and he had a positive working attitude. He loved to make friends, and everybody in his school liked him. This year, he was studying in Form 3. One day, he went to school as usual. There were 3 youngsters wearing black leather suits standing at the school gate. Every one passing by thought they were crazy, because it was summer. ‘They don’t feel hot, do they?’ ‘They must be nuts.’ Fake greeted them as he did to everyone on the street. The gangsters greeted back, ‘Hey, kid, what’s up?’ asked their leader, ‘Nothing, just greetings. I am Fake.’ Fake wanted to make friends with them. ‘What? You are a Fake? Ha! Then where is your real body? Now, join our club and let us help you find your body,’ said one of the gangsters. ‘I don’t think you three are bad people. I will join you,’ Fake replied.
It was just the beginning of Fake’s gangster life.
After Fake was dismissed from school, the 3 gangsters took Fake to their headquarters. It was untidy and filled with nasty smell. Fake covered his nose, but in order to be polite to the gangsters, he put down his hand and tried to be nice. ‘Fake, sit down and try this stuff,’ said a gangster. ‘Just sniff the powder, and it will power you up. Quick! No time!’ Fake did, sniff, sniff. ‘Gee! It…it is nice, could I have some more, please?’ asked Fake. ‘Sure! But you need to help me deliver this package to this address first, before I give you some more,’ said the boss.
Fake went to the destination. On the way, he opened the package. He saw bags of white powder inside. Someone wearing neat black suit was waiting at the destination. They saw Fake running to them, knowing he must be the sender. The men asked Fake to put the package on the ground, and they would put down one of their boxes they had brought with them too. Fake did so, and after the men in black had picked up the package, Fake picked up the heavy box and left.
Fake went back to the HQ and gave the gangsters the box. There was a stack of banknotes inside! ‘We are rich, Boss!’ ‘Fake, you can have your reward now. Just take them all,’ The Boss told Fake. Fake was happy because it seemed that he had given others a hand.
The sniffing stuff made Fake unable to go home for some days. His parents were very worried about Fake. They asked the students, the staff and the principal of the school for him, but no one knew where Fake had gone.
It had been a week since Fake disappeared. With the only son disappeared, Fake’s parents were very frustrated and nervous. They reported to the police. The police officers were concerned about this case. They called upon everyone in the whole NowHere to find Fake. Finally, the police found Fake in a male washroom in the mall near his school. Fake looked pale, very sick and sneezing all the time. ‘Aar choo! Pleeease…help…help me…’ Fake asked for help and fainted. The police sent him to the NowHere Hospital, the only hospital in NowHere.
After about an hour’s observation, the doctor told Fake’s parents that Fake had been taking too many drugs, which had already worsened some of his organs. His parents were asked to go into the room where Fake was staying. ‘Fake, it is mom. Fake, do you remember me?’ His mother was crying heavily. ‘Fake was unconscious now; I prefer him to stay in hospital for a month,’ the doctor advised. The parents left and blamed themselves for not teaching their only son well to be an upright person and to serve the society. Every day, they came and visited Fake, hoping he could regain his memory.
The day after Fake was sent to the hospital, the gangsters were discussing their future. ‘Hey Boss, we would be caught some day because of joining the triad and selling drugs, let’s leave this city.’ ‘No, I won’t leave our stupid pet alone. We will change his memory that I will tell him that I am his father, and you two will be his brothers,’ the Boss suggested. Another boy exclaimed, ‘No! I don’t want to be the dumb head’s brother…’ ‘Then you will be his mother or sister! Just shut up and stay in this clubhouse until later,’ the Boss told his fellows.
Fake recovered better day by day, but still he could not remember why and where he had fainted. He just knew he was taking drug in a clubhouse. Knowing this, the doctor called the police. After a month, when Fake nearly recovered and left the hospital, the police came and asked Fake to take them to the clubhouse where he had picked up his drugs.
After searching about 50 clubhouses for a week, they came to the last one, where the three gangsters were staying. The police broke in from the main entrance and spread teams to the back entrance. Fake led the police to the main hall of the clubhouse. Fake remembered the smell, the untidy, old furniture of the hall. They found the 3 gangsters hiding behind the giant sofa. The three of them were curling themselves to hide themselves safely. The 3 gangsters looked up and saw the police. They eventually went to the back entrance that the teams of police were. The police jumped down from the trees in front of the entrance and caught them. There was no way to go, the three gangsters were regretful, but everything was too late. They were sent to the police station and no one saw them out after this incident.
Fake didn’t remember all the things clearly but he decided to be an upright person, and continued his school life seriously.
