Chubby the Marmot lived high up in the mountain. He was kind but he ate too much!
Everyday, marmots took turn for guard duty when others looked for food of seeds and leaves. This was because high in the mountain lived a miserable eagle, who liked nothing better than to frighten them, swooped down and caught them.
One day, Chubby was called to take the duty. He had to stand straight up on top of a small hill. After a big meal, Chubby started his duty and tried his best to do it. He stood upright and kept his eyes wide open to watch for any danger. Soon, he fell into a deep sleep while standing there. His friends, not knowing that he was asleep, kept on gathering food at the foot of the hill.
Suddenly Chubby the Marmot found himself being caught by the miserable eagle and carried high into the sky. At last the eagle dropped him in his nest high in the mountain.
"Oh! Help! Help!" cried Chubby.
"Yummy! Yummy!" laughed the eagle. "I like marmot pie!"
Chubby quickly jumped out of the nest. He kept falling down and down and "bump!" He found himself on the guard post, still standing up. "My goodness, it was such a horrible dream! I must have fallen asleep," he said thankfully. It scared him so much, that in the future he took very good care of himself and not to eat too much, because it always sent him to sleep.
"Not hungry?" asked his curious friends, when they saw him eating much less.
He would just smile and we all know why.
