The flag of HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) is red in colour with a white five-petal bauhinia in the centre. Each petal has a star and a total of five as on the flag of China.
The HKSAR flag was first officially hoisted on 1st of July 1997 when the sovereignty of Hong Kong was returned from the United Kingdom to China. The new emblem was then commonly used.
According to the law of China, when the national flag and regional flag of the HKSAR are raised or used at the same time, the national flag should be at the central and a higher position.
When in procession, the national flag should be raised in front of the regional flag.
When the two flags are used at the same time and placed side by side, the national flag should be larger than the regional flag, with the national flag taking the right position and the regional flag taking the left.
